Understanding the Value of Your Patent Portfolio: A Practical Guide for Business Executives

When: March 20, 2013  11:30 AM – 2:00 PM PST

Where: Carr & Ferrell LLP. 120 Constitution Drive, Menlo Park, California 94025

Sponsored and hosted by: Foresight Valuation Group and Carr & Ferrell LLP

DESCRIPTION
The value of patent portfolios is often shrouded in mystery, due to the lack of transparency associated with IP transactions. The media coverage of some of the recent multi-billion dollar patent deals has allowed a rare glimpse into the financial value of these assets.

This multidisciplinary panel will provide a practical guide to understanding the value of a company’s patent portfolio from the viewpoint of a variety of stakeholders. The panel will present a rounded view of the methods applied and factors considered in the valuation and assessment of patents as they relate to the corporate IP holder.

The discussion will focus on the types of transactions/ circumstances when IP valuation is required, and will present the different views on valuing patents:
- The transactional view
- The accounting /tax planning view
- The litigation view
- The startup view
